A 10-mile long vegetated shingle spit stretching from Aldeburgh to Shingle Street. It is a nature reserve and a Grade I Site of Special Scientific Interest. A secret military testing area since 1913, it has been the site of many experiments in the field of aerial warfare, including being the birthplace of Radar and a site for the testing of atomic weapons throughout the Cold War period. On the site are waymarked trails through areas of natural history and military interest, viewing platforms and displays on its nature conservation value and historical significance.
